Cheryl Ehlers & Zooinitas

ZOOINITAS:  I want to extend a very special "thank you" to "all" the artists, sponsors, donors and supporters of this exhibition and share the appreciation I have for the efforts put forth in support of Art and for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, Safehouse Program.

One year ago in August, I  started selecting very specific artists for and exhibit that was pending on a juried review, it certainly was not easy singling out the best works.  Out of 31 requests it was narrowed down to 17 fabulously talented and incredibly driven individuals.  All professional in numerous fields, and with some with amazing resumes.

Collectively, their accomplishments are too vast to detail, but if you have the chance to meet the artists on July 26, 1-4pm at the opening reception, you will find they are very complex and talented. Visit www.zooinitas.zohosites.com and read about them, and view the video: http://youtu.be/H_QY2O9Fq8M

It has been a pleasure curating this exhibit, coordinating the auction and spreading the word to catch attention for the artists and the RCHS.  We hope that you will join us Saturday, July 26, between 1-4pm at the Encinitas Library located at 540 Cornish Dr. in Encinitas.

We are offering something for everyone; art, silent auction, pet adoptions, toy drop off, art demonstration, live music and a wonderful reception.

To all my fellow artists I cannot express enough the "gratitude for your positive attitudes, dedication and commendatory" in supporting Zooinitas efforts for a great cause, the RCHS. It has been a wonderful to be able to bring this to the public.

Thank you to: Adele Richert, Bobbi Harrington, Brian Batemen, Bruce Stewart, Debra Saum, Francine Filsinger, Gary Johnson, Joan Hansen, Krista Timberlake, Linda Luisi, Mo McGee, Stephen Frank Gary, Terry Oshrin, Thomas Thomas and Tish Wynne, who proudly represent the animals on the planet, and are looking forwarding to sharing their experiences in painting each piece.

Join us and dare to enter the jungles of Encinitas with Zooinitas on Saturday, Free to the public.  Let's go "jungle boogie"

Respectfully,

Cheryl Ehlers

SPOTLIGHT ON ZOOINITAS ARTIST - Adele Richert

ZOOINITAS WELCOMES ARTIST ADELE RICHERT

Adele Richert works primarily in oil and has also created wildlife art in pen and ink, graphite, watercolor, and mixed media. Her subjects are wildlife, still life and landscape en plein air. Ms. Richert's intention is to show the beauty the world has to offer, if remember to take the time to see it.

Prior to relocating to San Diego in 2011, Adele Richert was an emerging artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has exhibited her wildlife, still life and landscape paintings at the Atrium in San Francisco, the Hearst Gallery in Moraga, Frank Bette Center for the Arts and Estuary Art Attack in Alameda and F3 Oakland. Adele studied at U.C. Berkeley Extension in the Studio Design program. She also studied with San Francisco wildlife artist Carolyn Griffin, attended courses at Chabot College with artist and instructor Kim Mendenhall and attended workshops with Oakland fine artist Carol Tarzier. Ms. Richert has been mentored by master artists John Cosby, Gil Dellinger, Kevin Macpherson and Joseph Paquet.

Currently, Richert works from her studio in the Point Loma Liberty Station/NTC Promenade Creative Arts and Culture District. Stop by and see her at Barracks 19 a Atelier de Voyages.

"If we, as artists, can bring awareness to others about the wildlife that is threatened with extinction, either by loss of habitat or hunting, hopefully we can help to save these animals for future generations to enjoy and observe in their natural habitat, and in zoos, such as the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, which are working on public awareness and wildlife conservation for these incredible species. I had the amazing opportunity to visit Tanzania and observe wildlife in its natural habitat, where I was able to capture this magnificent lion during a photo safari. I am thrilled to be exhibiting my painting of him in the 2014 Zooinitas show."

Visit Adele at www.richertstudio.com. and come meet Adele at the Zooinitas, opening Reception, July 26, 1-4pm at the Encinitas Library Art Gallery. Info: www.zooinitas.zohosites.com

SPOTLIGHT ON ARTIST Bruce Stewart

ZOOINITAS WELCOMES ARTISTS,  BRUCE STEWART

We are so happy to have a wonderful artist and terrific person as Bruce.  When he talks about the ocean, his eyes light up and his face transforms into one gigantic smile as he reflects on what it means to him. As a child, artist Bruce Stewart found the ocean fascinating and compelling. Even then, he loved the roar of the waves, finding shells, and smelling the seawater. But it wasn't until an inspirational instructor motivated him during his freshman year at the College of the Sequoias that Stewart began to study his interest with a passion. And that passion grew as he finished with a major in Marine Biology/Zoology and a minor in Art at the University of California, Davis.

Born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley of central California between the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the sea. After college (Zoology and Art at UC Davis) he moved to the coast and have lived within a few miles of a shore ever since. My favorite art instructor at UCD was Wayne Tiebaud, whose sense of color, shapes, and composition still influence my work today. After a stint in a graphics studio in SF and graduate studies in marine ecology at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories on Monterey Bay, he joined the then new Monterey Bay Aquarium as Program Curator in the early 1980s. Moved to Southeast Texas to become Education Director of the new Texas State Aquarium (TSA) in Corpus Christi in 1990. After building the Education Department and working as interim Assistant Director and Director of Husbandry at TSA, he moved back to California and started a consulting firm, Bruce Stewart Associates, serving clients ranging from California State Parks to NOAA's National Marine Sanctuary to the National Marine Biology Museum and Aquarium of Taiwan. In the early '90s he married Roberta Dean and became a father to her 5 yr. old daughter, Jessica. In addition to consulting, He founded the Return of the Natives Environmental Restoration Program (now at CSU Monterey Bay) and led eco-tourism trips internationally (East Africa, Seyshelles,

Bruce believes so much in the value of art as it relates to the sea, that he donates 10% of every artwork he sells to non-profit organizations that support ocean awareness and conservation. Among the recipients, Birch Aquarium, the Oceanic Society, Surf Rider, and the Surfing Madonna Foundation. Bruce says he always worked with non-profits and doesn’t want to disconnect from areas that he believes make a difference.

No wonder he has such a big smile when he talks about the ocean and his art!!!

Bruce has created a new piece for the Zooinitas show named: GOING WITH THE FLOE, you simply must check it out on July 26 at the opening reception of Zooinitas. His smile is infectious!  Visit Bruce at www.etsy.com/shop/oneoceanart or email him at bstewartassociates@gmail.com.

SPOTLIGHT ON DEBRA SAUM - Talking Art, Animlal Portraits that Speak

Talking Art Animal Portraits That Speak

Zooinitas exhibit brings life to stories behind the art during an opening reception, July 26, 2014, 1-4pm at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Dr., Encinitas, CA 92024. 17 artists talk to the animals, but one is exceptional, welcome Debra Saum.

debra saum
debra saum
Debra A. Saum is an internationally respected Animal Artist and Animal Intuitive who telepathically communicates with the animals she paints….while she is creating their portraits.  Her award winning “Talking Art” is known for its revolutionary ability to inspire inter-species communication between the subjects in her portraits and the people who enjoy their vibrantly colorful canvases. Because her unusual portraits capture the essence of each animal, many people comment upon seeing her art “I feel like the animals are talking to me!”

Her fascinating work affords her plenty of provocative and other-worldly moments. Like the time she conversed with a lion who sat no more than a foot away, talking about his heart-rendering message to mankind while she snapped the photographs she would later use to create his beautiful portrait. Or the conversations she had while painting Lassie, a spunky, deceased mare whose insightful messages from spirit talked about her charmed life in a well known Animal Sanctuary in upstate New York. Lassie’s portrait hangs today in the Great Hall at Spring Farm Cares Sanctuary where she continues to conduct telepathic sessions with the students who go there to learn about Animal Communication. Or the moment when Alana, a beautiful Arabian filly, announced she was “smelling the emotions” when asked why horses like to investigate the manure of their herd members. Alana’s matter of fact sixth-sense observations confirmed the higher consciousness that all animals possess.

Having painted hundreds of famous animals, horses, endangered wildlife, and the beloved pets of caring humans, Debra’s 30+ years of experience has taught her that inter-species communication changes the way people think about not only the animals in their life, but about themselves and their relationship to the universe. In her popular Equine communication Clinics and Animal Intuition Workshops, participants learn that telepathic interaction is a natural and powerful way to connect with all life. During her numerous television and radio appearances, viewers and listeners enjoy the sometimes humorous, but always poignant messages which animals have for their humans.  And for those people who commission Debra to paint their beloved animal companions, one of their favorite moments is when Debra shares the lively conversations that transpired between her and her subject during the portraits’ creation.

Debra has written countless articles and books about her work.  To learn more, visit www.debrasaum.com.

The afternoon will provide support for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS), animal Safehouse Program, a safety net for the pets of domestic violence victims. Safehouse is also a lifeline for veterans, senior citizens, accident victims, and…most recently…victims of the fires.

The event has something for all ages and explores new techniques and celebrated self-expression by exceptionally talented artists.  The original artworks truly represent the animal world in a natural environment and will be available for sale. Free to the public; enjoy music  by Second Cousin, and refreshments as you take a tour into the virtual art studios of three artists, Joan Hansen, Gary Johnson and Linda Luisi who will be creating art, just in time for the silent auction.  “Instead of spending thousands of dollars to travel to exotic places to see wildlife, Zoonitas will bring images of these unique animals to you”,

You can show your support by dropping a small toy into the “Toys for Pups” drop box out front, the day of the reception, browse an array of auction items and show your support by learning about the RCHS programs.

What image does “stalk” inspire in your mind as you start your tour and explore.  Enjoy the tour-guiding artists who proudly represent the animals on the planet, and are looking forwarding to sharing their experiences of painting each piece. Artists: Adele Richert, Bobbi Harrington, Brian Batemen, Bruce Stewart, Cheryl Ehlers, Debra Saum, Francine Filsinger, Gary Johnson, Gwenn Beope, Joan Hansen, Krista Timberlake, Linda Luisi, Mo McGee, Stephen Frank Gary, Terry Oshrin, Thomas Thomas and Tish Wynne,

The Zooinitas exhibit runs through August 24 at the Encinitas Library Art Gallery, open 7 days a week, Mon-Sat, 10am – 5pm, Sun – 12-5pm.  For more information about Zoonitas call 760-519-1551 (tel:760-519-1551) or log on to  www.zooinitas.zohosites.com

ZOOINITAS welcomes the incredibly talented artist, Bobbie Harrington.

As a child, Bobbi Harrington already had the passion of an artist as she was always drawing. At the age of 13, she began oil painting. She is primarily self-taught, but has taken lessons from many great teachers over the years. In return, for over 30 years, she has been teaching others who share her passion.

Bobbi has had numerous one-woman exhibitions within the United States. She created an eight-plate series for Lenox titled: "Just Cubs" in the early 1990's. More recently, she completed murals for a pediatric complex, which included waiting rooms, hallways and offices. One of her dolphin paintings was licensed for t-shirts that sold in Japan. She was also invited to show in an exhibition at the San Diego Natural History Museum where she sold some works as well.

Bobbi paints in oil, watercolor and acrylic, and occasionally plays with pastels. She often demonstrates a photorealistic style that is meticulous in detail and sumptuous in color, form and range of subject matter.  Her artwork is an exceptional contribution to the Zooinitas Exhibition and all visitors will be pleasantly surprised.
