Drawing And Color: Pencil, Color Pencil, Pastel - For new and returning students. at the Carlsbad Senior Center on 799 Pine Ave.(not limited to seniors). Register 4 weeks at a time for ongoing lessons:

9:45-11:45 AM Four Tuesdays , Classes start Apr. 15; May 13.
Start dates for summer: July 1; July 28; Aug. 26.

Learn right brain drawing, shading for depth and dimension, and color harmony for richness. Improve your observation skills with line, color and composition for your art to be aesthetic and accurate. This also helps painters to draw their subject properly (abstractly or realistically). Learn several approaches to see what works best for you. There will be demonstrations and you will receive individual attention. 

Linda Luisi is an experienced trompe l'oeil muralist known for depth and dimension. She shares her skills with enthusiasm for novices and those with all levels of experience.

Bring: pencils (#2 HB soft pencils, or soft art pencils as #4B), kneaded eraser (or any eraser), ruler, and sketch pad (9x12" or larger) or plenty of plain paper. If you wish, you may also bring a color media of your choice: colored pencils, pastels, and appropriate papers for that media.

SPOTLIGHT ON ZOOINITAS ARTIST - Adele Richert

SAdele Richert, Zooinitas Artist

We are happy to introduce Adele into our collaborative of animal artists. 

Adele relocated to San Diego in 2011 and was an emerging artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has exhibited her wildlife, still life and landscape paintings at the Atrium in San Francisco, the Hearst Gallery in Moraga, Frank Bette Center for the Arts and Estuary Art Attack in Alameda and F3 Oakland.

She studied at U.C. Berkeley Extension in the Studio Design program. She also studied with San Francisco wildlife artist Carolyn Griffin, attended courses at Chabot College with artist and instructor Kim Mendenhall and attended workshops with Oakland fine artist Carol Tarzier. Ms. Richert has been mentored by master artists John Cosby, Gil Dellinger, Kevin Macpherson and Joseph Paquet.

Adele works primarily in oil and has also created wildlife art in pen and ink, graphite, watercolor, and mixed media. Her subjects are wildlife, still life and landscape en plein air. Adele's intention is to show the beauty the world has to offer, if remember to take the time to see it.

SPOTLIGHT on ZOOINTAS Artist Stephen Frank Gary

Zooinitas "welcomes" artist, Stephen Frank Gary to the July 15th exhibition at the Encinitas Community Library Art Gallery. One of 17 artists,  he is talented, versatile and an environmentalist at heart. Gary's personality is driven by many interests and beliefs. He states, "I am an artist and have been making art prior to any formal education. When introduced to public education, the only classes I ever looked forward to were art. I continued art in college and worked on a never finished master’s degree in painting,  Eventually I became an attorney in order support myself and family, and when time permitted, kept artwork practice as my passion."  

He simply enjoys the process of creating visual things. Making art is his way to communicate to the world. His process involves observation and absorbing of the world around me, distilling it in, then making a visual compilation with no particular set plan to follow. Much of his artwork comes out as a surprise as he  incorporate's  differing materials and techniques; whatever it takes to make a piece work. 

After 50 plus years of making art, doing sheet metal work, building surfboards and helicopters, he have learned many skills which are incorporated into the art. "Sometimes I am lucky enough to produce a beautiful mistake. At this point, I identify myself as a journeyman, and art is my journey." SPOTLIGHT ON OUR ARTIST KRISTA TIMBERLAKE

Meet Krista Timberlake, one of 17 artists in the Zooinitas Exhibition coming July 2014.  She is wildly talented and an extremely versatile artist.  We are excited to have her exhibiting with us. 

"I hail from Western Massachusetts, where I grew up in a family and community of artists and craftspeople & developed my love of nature & the outdoors. After attending UVM for premed & Savannah College of Art & Design, I earned my BFA from UMASS, Amherst. As an avid cyclist, yogini, hiker, weightlifter, fitness enthusiast & general outdoors-woman, I have a great appreciation for the great outdoors and the natural world. 


Artistically, I have always been drawn to depict animals in addition to people, especially in a whimsical manner. There is no shortage of fascinating, unusual subjects in the animal kingdom. In all my work, I am intrigued by line, texture and color, and am most drawn to using watercolor as it is unpredictable. The most interesting things happen in my work when “mistakes” occur- unplanned reactions between pigment & paper that I will never be able to duplicate.

Spotlight on ZOOINITAS Artist, BRIAN BATEMAN

Meet one of 17 Artists of Zooinitas as we  “welcome”, Brian Bateman and his incredibly versatility, passion and talents to the exhibition in 2014.

Brian’s interest in history began as a child. He became enthused with model building, dioramas, and research books. Anything and everything Brian could get on the subject of history.  Brian has had the opportunity to live in an area where aviation was at the forefront, most notably Wright-Patterson AFB.  Brian moved to San Diego California, where there are many vintage aircraft and restoration facilities available, not to mention near perfect weather all year around.  In 1995 his first painting "Shadow of the Moon", was well received, and Brian went to print with it. Brian started Bateman Galleries in 1995, trying to make a well rounded business out of his love for history and art in general. The gallery has grown over the years to include many facets of his art, and not just aviation. Since then, Brian has released 16 prints on the market and continues to strive to produce quality work at a level where others can share. His edition sizes are small at 250 so they remain more collectible and have a better market value.  His website showcases his many talents and diverse styles, from aviation to military history, to wildlife and the human figure.
